Summer Travel: Club Med Sandpiper
Bringing Nature Closer
Club Med Villages are scattered all over the world and most of them are located on exotic islands or next to a body of water. Believe it or not, we have one right here in Florida on the St Lucie River about two hours north of Miami and an hour north of Fort Lauderdale on the East coast. It’s an exotic, all-inclusive, French village right in our midst.
You feel like you are on an island once you enter the village. Recently renovated to open up the restaurants and pools to the view of the St Lucie river, the Club Med mission was to bring nature closer. So wherever you go you see water, boats and birds. Now there are three pools to lounge by, one is an adult only pool for quiet times, and all are adorned with perky red umbrellas. The shallow children’s splash pool is outfitted for fun play with a tunnel slide and a water turret.
Once you have checked in and settled in your comfortable, spacious room, there are many activities to choose from.
In addition to eating to your heart’s (and your stomach’s) content, you, too, can swing on a trapeze (not right after lunch, please), sail in the lake, dance by the pool to sixties music, swim in a pool, play tennis on clay or hard courts, golf on a nine-holer, and vedge out on any of the many comfy lounges scattered throughout the village. Then top the day off with a soft yogurt swirl while you watch the sun set in the west over the Everglades.
If you’re traveling with children or teens, you’ll be happy to know that there are lots of GO (Gracious Organizer) led, planned activities to keep them busy and satisfied. From sailing boats to flying through the air on a trapeze, to pool games, tennis and a high tech game room, there is something for all youngsters. There is even a teen lounge where they can mingle with new friends and dance the night away to music all teens dig. Little ones under three are supervised in play and nap programs in the children’s wing if you desire to enter them for an optional charge and give yourself a break for the day.
Relaxed and casual are two of the best adjectives which describe Club Med. Most drinks are on the house and the chocolate bread is to die for. Whether eating inside at the magnanimous buffet, or being served outdoors on the Soleil patio, you will have a delightful time.
